A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE YOUR ITALIAN

As I was observing our attendees at our last meeting, I came up with an idea which has been prompted by umpteenth requests I received from our members during the years. It is about a place where smaller groups can get together on a regular basis for actual conversation in Italian. We never truly had such a place for quiet and exclusive practice.  Being as they are, open to anyone, our meetings often end up splitting in smaller groups that converse in mixed languages. The idea of gathering independently from our monthly regular meeting to exclusively speak Italian has been floating in my mind and in that of many members for a long time.  So, last week, I spoke about it to Kendra Bauser, the owner of Three Peaches Café Gelato, and she’s all for it. For those who missed our last meeting, this is a new venue that just opened its doors, featuring amazing Italian gelato and coffee. It is conveniently located in Midtown, and it has free parking.  I am proposing to get it started with a smaller, once a month conversation group, gathering over coffee & pastry and see how it goes.  The date could be wedged between our regular monthly gatherings. We can start with one gathering, then the participants may decide to schedule this group more often, as often as twice a month. The time of the meeting is crucial, given that Atlanta’s traffic has become an ominous barrier for those traveling during rush hour.  Our first Language Group meeting has been set for Saturday October 14 at 12:00 noon which seems to fit a few of our member’s agenda.  I’ll be there to welcome and get the group going, though I would prefer that the group elected a leader and became autonomous.  Unlike our regular meetings where we collect funds for our expenses, there shall be no door charge at these conversation meetings.  I hope you like this idea.  If the activity gets momentous, an Italian instructor could be hired to lead the session. So, let’s try this first one and see how it goes!

LEARNING ITALIAN, THE PRACTICAL WAY

The do-it-yourself method, for busy professionals like you

Lack of time is the common reason for not learning new languages.  You will be surprised what simple exposure to a language can do.  Just coming to Ciancia ana liustening to conversation may get you going.  However, have you ever tried to listen to a language tape cassette in your car on your way to work? You would be surprised what miracles can a tape do in a week time. The combination of subliminal training, while you drive, and monthly conversation has enabled many of our members to learn enough Italian to travel alone. At any rate, brushing up your language skills before the meetings will maximize the effect of your exposure to such musical and sensuous mother tongue. Classes are good for those who need structure and personal guidance. Still, you need to maximize that investment! Do you commute daily? Try our method for a week.  Then come to Ciancia to practice what you have learned.  You will see amazing results!
